Gilders Yard, the site of the former Ashford & Sons gilt works, sits on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham and within the local conservation area. The project comprises of the construction of three new 3 and 4 storey residential blocks as well as refurbishment of Grade II* listed buildings to provide 157 apartments, with commercial space formed at ground level facing Great Hampton Street and Harford Street.
Originally employed to provide construction, investigation and project recovery advice on the scheme following the announcement that the previous contractor had fallen into administration, buildfifty5 were formerly appointed as Principal Contractor under a Construction Management appointment acting directly for the funder Grainger PLC. buildfifty5 were then appointed as Clerk of Works highlighting our adaptability, expertise and the flexible skill base used to meet the needs of market leading clients in a challenging environment.
Gilders Yard in the Jewellery Quarter welcomed its first residents from September 2022 with its mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, some of which have the original factory features with floor to ceiling windows and ornamental metal work. This Grade II listed building has been carefully and considerately renovated bringing a combination of old and new. Gilders Yard features a range of high-quality resident amenities including a co-working space and resident’s lounge, as well as a gym, outdoor courtyard garden and an on-site Resident Services team.
