Awarded Best European Development of the Year
Creating a 100m euro mixed use development in the center of a European Capital City, 100m from the 2nd largest river in Europe would prove difficult even here in our home country in the UK.
But when the Capital City is Budapest and the river is the mighty Danube, then difficulty has a whole new meaning.
Palazzo Dorottya was a protected national monument for which we were commissioned by an Italian Developer to procure design, building permits and a contractor to build it.
The design entailed a 4-storey basement car park which sat below the Danube water table, a retail ground floor with Michelin Star Restaurant, a first floor with high specification offices and 90 ultra-modern apartments above all of this.
Being a national monument, the whole of the façade had to be retained, with further restrictions that all façade retention structure had to be inside of the building.
The basement car park excavation located historical artifacts such as Roman walls, which were removed, stored and designed back into the development. All historical details on the façade were repaired, or copied and installed where repairs were impossible.
The inner courtyard behind the retained façade made way for a first-floor courtyard with modern façades.
Upon completion this fantastic development was awarded the title of European Development of the Year.
